Students who do not own their own instrument may rent one from the school or from a music store.
School Rental Information
If you choose to rent from St. Martin, the cost is $100 for the year. On the first day of school students will get a rental form. This form and check is due by Friday, September 6th. Please make the check out to St. Martin Marianist School with the memo "Orchestra Rental".
If you choose to rent, the instrument must be returned by the last day of school in the same condition as when it was assigned. You must take financial responsibility for any damages or replacements should your instrument become lost or stolen.
If any damage occurs to the instrument, please bring it in for me to see right away! Some minor damages can be fixed easily at the school for no cost. If major damage has occurred, I will refer you to a business which can repair the instrument effectively.
Please bring in this instrument once a week to be tuned during homeroom.

If you are unsure about whether to rent or buy an instrument, here are a couple of pointers to help you choose.
- Students who aren't sure if they want to stay in orchestra or want to stick with their current instrument may want to rent until they have found the instrument that they love!
- Students who are small or still growing may want to rent until they can fit a full size instrument. All students will be measured at the beginning of the year and as needed throughout the year. (students in junior high are most likely to fit full size instruments)
Should you choose to buy your own instrument, here are some things to keep in mind
- You get what you pay for. Buying from ebay, garage sales, or other major retail stores aren't the best option for instruments. While these instruments are cheap in the moment, they are usually poorly made and can end up costing you much more in damage repairs.
- Avoid colored instruments. Again you get what you pay for. While these instruments might be pretty to look at, they don't sound the best and usually are made poorly. As an alternative, get cool stickers to put on the outside of your case or folder, or even a decorative name tag!
- I would love to help you in making your first instrument purchase as easy as possible, so contact me if you have questions or would like guidance on where to buy from and what to look for!
